Fathers Day

My first food blog post and it's going live on Father's Day!!

This morning (or really last night) I prepared monkey bread or sticky buns. Whatever you want to call it. In my house it's called YUM!

I fix this normally for special occasions (ie- birthdays, vistors coming in from out of town) and it's always a hit in my house. The first time I had this was last summer when we went to Houston to visit my family. My wonderful cousin Pam made these just for us- or so I like to think. So of course upon leaving I had to know how she made them. My first attempt didn't go so well. I mean, they were edible but no where near as divine as hers. But with a little trail and error- and an idiot proof reciepe on the back of the bread package, I've perfected my delictable breakfast treat.

Ready for ooyey, gooyie yumminess?

You'll need:
1/4 cup of sugar
1 cup of brown sugar
1 package of butterscotch pudding (not the instant kind)
1 stick of butter
1 package of rolls- I use Parkerhouse (the recipe is on the back)
2 teaspoons of cinnamon

Start off by greasing a bundt pan like so

I use Pam because it's because of my cousin Pam that I've tasted these fantastic breakfast treats.

Next, combine all of your dry ingredients (sugars, cinnamon, pudding mix)

Yes, before you say anything, I know that what you're seeing is more than 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Don't judge me. I like cinnamon.

Melt the stick of butter for about 30 seconds.

While that's melting, mix all of your dry ingredients together.
Pretty...
Now we're going to sprinkle or coat, your choice, the bottom of the bundt pan with the mixture.

You'll notice that I have my cake pan on a cookie sheet. I made the mistake of cooking this once before with no barrier underneath. Let's just say that everything oozed over and dripped on the bottom of my oven and sparkes arose. I realized this morning that a shallow baking dish would be even better.

Dip your bread nuggets into the butter...
and then into the sugar/pudding mixture. I don't have a picture of that seeing as how my hands became a little dirty. I'm sure you get the idea.

Now, rinse and repeat until all of your bread is nice and covered and smothered. When you're done, the pan will look something like this.

Oh!! So good! You may notice that you have butter and sugar left over. Well, we aren't going to waste that! Pour the leftover butter on top of the bread in the pan and then do the same with the sugar. End result?

This.

Trust. It smells so good.

All of this, FYI, needs to be prepared the night before you want to serve these. The bread has to rise and be fluffy. So...place the pan into a dark dry place. I store into my oven over night.

Around 10:30 last night I had to take a peek to see what was going on...
Awesome!!!

When you wake up in the morning take the pan out of the oven. Mine looked like this.

So so good! I happen to know someone who tried these before they had been cooked the last time he came to visit. *coughAaron*

Preheat the oven to 350 and bake for 30 minutes. After they have finished, flip your bundt pan over (this is where a shallow baking dish is a better idea than a cookie sheet) like so...

Dig in? Not quite. Now, this is my super secret weapon. The icing. It takes effort and love to make it. But in the end, it's so worth it!
I know it's sideways but I can promise you that you're reading it correctly. It's so much work to unscrew that cap and microwave the bottle so that the glaze inside is thin enough to pour over the bread. I cheat. Sue me.

After you've microwaved the glaze (read the back of the bottle for further instructions) drizzle it over the top of the bread.

And VIOLA! You've got breakfast!

Now for dinner on this special fathers day as it was a first for my brother and my brother in law, There was much slaving over the stove to concoct the perfect meal. And so we all gathered round the table to break bread of another sort...

Or chips since we ate at Superior. And yes, I'm sure there was slaving over a hot stove it just wasn't me.

So I had a wonderful fathers day with some pretty wonderful fathers.
Brother in Law Tim and his two ADORABLE babies...

Brother Dusty and his sweet, teething baby girl...

My two boys...

And my favorite...my Daddy.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!
